Holy Week

Falls Church Presbyterian Church offers special services on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday, a sunrise Easter service, and two traditional Easter celebration services.

April 1, Maundy Thursday – 7:30 p.m.: Maundy Thursday service with Holy Communion. “Maundy” comes from the Latin, novum mandatum, the “new commandment” that Jesus gives his followers to love one another.

April 2, Good Friday – 7:30 p.m.: Tenebrae service. “Tenebrae” means “shadows;" this is a moving service of scripture, music and progressive darkening of candles and church to symbolize the passion and death of Jesus.

April 3, Easter Vigil – 5:00 p.m.: Worship service and renewal of baptismal vows. The vigil is the First Service of Easter, reversing the mood and message of Tenebrae, beginning in relative darkness and ending with light.

April 4, Easter Sunday: Three services to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead and the power of Christ’s victory over sin and death, the most celebrative and joyous event in the Christian liturgical year.

Children in Worship

We are delighted to welcome children of all ages to our worship services. We provide worship bags, available from an usher at the entrances to the sanctuary. These bags contain books, paper, stickers and other quiet activities for children to use during the service, and return.

For the Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday services, all child care is provided in the nursery (room 11).

Child care is not provided for the Easter sunrise service.

For the Easter celebration services, nursery care is available for worshipers under the age of 2 in room 11 from 8:30AM through 12:30PM. During the 8:45AM service, 2 and 3 year olds gather in room 206. Parents may drop off and pick up their children at any time during the morning.
